Standards:
1. The candidate has deep knowledge of current and emerging state initiatives and programs including, but not limited to, the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI); the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI); Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX); Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide (ACCESS); and RTI (Response to Instruction) and their relationship to student achievement.
In order to follow the standards correctly I often use ALEX to make sure student are hitting their learning targets. I have used Youtube to look for engaging lectures and teaching methods for teaching students. YouTube has a lot of great videos that show how different lessons can be taught and in ways that are not so boring. I have also used Pinterest to look up certain classroom assignment ideas especially when related to art. Our school does not offer an Art program or class, so it's nice to implement that when I can.
2. The candidate understands how content and skill development can be supported by media and technology and knows how to evaluate these resources for quality, accuracy, and effectiveness.
My student's are always using technology in the classroom. If students are working independently, I may allow them to listen to music if it helps them get their work done. If there is a test, I may play calming music to keep the classroom from being too quiet. My students read "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton and Youtube had the full audiobook available. I was able to play the video as the students read along in their books.
3.The candidate dedicates time to collaborating with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems.
Our schools Facebook page offers a lot of information for to me to keep up with the schools activities. This allows me to make sure students are aware of sporting events, important dates and breakfast/lunch menus if requested. My colleagues have expressed how much they love my classroom and all the little details I have added to make it my own. I used Pinterest for a lot of ideas, including my word wall.
4. The candidate continually improves his or her practice by learning from and with others and exploring proven and promising practices that leverage technology to improve student learning.
My students regularly use their computers for assignments. On Tuesdays student's are required to work on their i-Ready reading. I have assigned students several Canva assignments for presentations and research. EdPuzzles are another learning tool the students use their computers for.
5. The candidate seeks out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning.
Social media is one way other teachers and myself share interesting teaching ideas. This helps us to collaborate and work together on different topics. I have sat in other teachers lessons and I have found that to be very beneficial.
